The start of the school year is a time of great contradictions.  It can be exciting and scary, overly regimented and chaotic.  The staff of Beverly High School has worked consistently over the summer to be sure that we have a successful beginning of school.  Our custodians have been sprucing up the building; our teachers have collaborated with each other on curriculum and assessment; guidance counselors have met with families to review course selections, and the administrative team has organized the schedule, hired staff and ordered materials and supplies.  The BHS community is eagerly waiting to welcome our students to the 2019-2020 school year and  to prepare another senior class to move into the world of college and career.  We work toward a common purpose of creating success for our students.

Beverly High school has created a Vision of the Graduate which describes our expectations for students. The Vision of the Graduate states the skills, dispositions and understandings that our students will attain by the time they graduate Beverly High School.  Beverly High School's Vision of the Graduate states...
  • The Beverly High School graduate is a  problem solver who thinks critically and communicates effectively.
  • The graduate exhibits responsibility and empathy in attitude and behavior.
  • The graduate understands the importance of inclusivity and community engagement.

Our intent this school year is to focus our efforts on developing the ideas, curriculum, resources and supports that help our graduate to attain these expectations. This will require discussion, reflection and action. It will be messy and challenging but also rewarding. We are ready to begin, and as Sendak said Where the Wild Things Are, "Let the wild rumpus start!"

We still have several months to go before the end of the school year, but as a school we are looking forward to the future.  The BHS staff with input from students, parents and community members has been working on crafting a Vision of the Graduate which will communicate the transferable skills, knowledge, understandings, and dispositions necessary for future success. This Vision of the Graduate will reflect the core values and beliefs about student learning. Beverly High School is preparing for the accreditation process working with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.  The process has begun this school year as we work on the Vision of the Graduate and our Self-Reflection report and will end in the fall of 2021 with the Decennial Accreditation visit.

The process of scheduling classes for the 2019-2020 school year has begun with the 8th graders receiving their course selection sheets for their freshman year at BHS.  On February 26th, Beverly High School will host an 8th Grade Curriculum Night which will provide parents and students information about course offerings, graduation requirements and long term academic plans. The course selection process will begin for current high school students in March with guidance staff speaking to classes about their choices and requirements.  During April, parents will be asked to sign their child's course selection sheets and the school wide schedule is developed over the course of May and June.
