Introduction

The Renaissance is recognized as the time period  from the 14th to the 16th centuries. The word "renaissance" comes from the French word "rebirth". The revival of interest in the classics, from Greece and Rome, led to a new age of achievements in art, science, literature and learning.  With these new ideas, life in western Europe transformed. How did these Renaissance ideas influence individual achievements?

As you step through the looking glass, you are taken back to the 1500s.  You are participating in the Academy of Humanist Arts at the Renaissance Faire. Seven famous individuals have been nominated for the coveted Apollo Award. These individuals each represent the new focus of the  human spirit and individual achievements. Each individual has been nominated from a field of talent in six categories: art, science, literature, religious leaders, political leaders, and inventors.
